As I posted earlier, the outcome of today's Washington Redskins 14 to 28 loss to the Green Bay Packers indicates that Kerry will win the election on Tuesday. I don't put a lot of stock in this kind of thing, but it certainly is an interesting rumor. Probability theory would say that there is no correlation between these two events. And even if there was, trends can be broken as witnessed by the World Series victory by the Boston Red Sox this year. So, you never know.

I talked to my dad this evening. He told me that he's going to Corona Regional Medical Center tomorrow to pre-register for his prostate cryosurgery on November 8th. It should be pretty routine stuff; paperwork and a blood test.
Cancer cryosurgery seems to be a minimally invasive treatment for cancer compared to the other methods available. The procedure requires an overnight hospital stay and about a week or two recovery at home. Nonetheless, it's still surgery and can have side effects and complications. We're confident and hoping for a great outcome for my dad.

Toni carved a pumpkin again this year like she has done many times before. The one she made was pretty simple, but very cute. She normally does very elaborate designs, but she was under the weather this year, so she decided to give herself a break.
We had way more trick or treaters this year than last year. They came in droves for about three hours. There were a lot of really cute little ones. I really liked one boy who was dressed up as Eeyore. This was Taffy's first Halloween. She was barking at the children, doing her best to protect Toni from the bad people coming to our door. It was so funny to see her all worked up. She is so small that the kids just laughed at her and commented how cute she is. Even when I brought Taffy upstairs, she would bark every time Toni would touch the door handle.
We went through three large bags of candies from Costco. We got so low at the end of the evening, Toni got desperate and prepared to give away snack sized bags of Cheetohs. But once she loaded the bowl with Cheetohs, the trick or treaters relented. We thought there was plenty of candy, but Toni and I are famous for giving out a bunch of treats to each child.

Taffy's mother is my sister-in-law Lisa's dog whose name is Cinnamon. Lisa gave away all of the litter except for two boys. These two remaining boys are named Ace and Fluffy. We almost took Ace, but I fell in love with Taffy and my brother-in-law Michael was nice enough to let us have her. Taffy's original name was Ghost because she had a light color to her coat compared to her siblings.
We saw Ace after quite a few weeks yesterday at the birthday party. He has really filled in and is quite a big, solid guy. He is much larger than Taffy with thicker paws and legs.
Fluffy is the favorite of my nephew Michael. He is the one puppy that was never going to be given away because Michael had become so attached to him. He is not as large as Ace, but still much larger than Taffy. I wanted a smaller dog, so Taffy ended up being the perfect choice.
Cinnamon is the mother of Taffy, Ace and Fluffy. She was a stray that Lisa took in a little while back. I liked Cinnamon from the first day I met her. She is a very gentle dog with a sweet disposition.

We celebrated my niece's and sister-in-law's birthday at their house on Saturday. Elizabeth asked that I bring my camera to capture a few memories for her.
Toni and I are taking Lisa to Disneyland for her birthday present. I'm sure she'll have a great time. It will be the first time she's seen the Magic Kingdom all decorated for the holidays.
Here's a few more of Elizabeth with some of her guests.

Toni heard a really interesting rumor on the radio. I had never heard of this. She said that for the past 68 years, the outcome of the last Washington Redskins home game before a Presidential election predicted the outcome of the election. According to the story, if the Redskins win, the incumbent candidate will win. If the Redskins lose, then the incumbent candidate will lose.
The Washington Redskins will be playing the Green Bay Packers at home tomorrow at 1:00 pm Eastern Time. I can't say that I put much stock in this, but it will be interesting if the trend continues to hold true. I guess we'll know in a few days. ;)
This morning, Toni, Erin and I were eating breakfast in the dining room. Everyone in this household is female except me. My wife, daughter, two cats (Sheba and Muffin) and a dog are all female. Well, Taffy, our new puppy was herding our cats. She thinks she's some kind of cat herder breed, I'm thinking. It is too funny.
Erin sometimes gets tongue-tied or has trouble pronouncing certain words. She used to call strawberries starberries when she was a toddler. She announced to us the other day that Taffy is Roastateer Dog. We said, "What?" She said, "You know, like roastateer chicken you roast on the fire." She called her that because she was holding her in a position where she was bundled up like a roasted chicken. "Oh, you mean Rotisserie Dog," I exclaimed, laughing. Now I regularly refer to Taffy as Roastateer Dog. I love little family inside jokes like that. :)

Erin just completed the classroom portion of driver's training. I signed her request for a DMV driving permit today. She will be getting 6 hours of professional driving training. Oh my gosh. She'll be legally able to drive on Monday. Yee-ikes! You have been duly warned.

Taffy at 20 Weeks
Taffy looks a little timid this week for her photo. That's ok, because then you can get a glimpse of the many faces of Taffy. She has so many looks. My wife's friend Janet says that Taffy is very photogenic. She comes to disneymike just to see the photos of Taffy. LOL

I am really liking Movable Type. One of the features I really love is the search capability. It indexes all my entries, so you can find any word in any of my posts by using the search on the main page. Blogger didn't have built-in search capability, so the search was done using Google. The problem was it would only find pages that Google had indexed and sometimes the results were not accurate because the indexing had been done some time in the past. So, go ahead. Try the search functionality. It works very well. :)
Toni and I accompanied my dad to see the TJ Maxx 2004 Tour of Gymnastics Champions at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim Saturday night. It was really neat to see the Olympic gymnasts in person performing their routines. I am always amazed at the strength and agility displayed by gymnasts. We had a great time. I didn't find out until I got to the venue that cameras were allowed as long as the lens was 6 inches or less. I could have gotten some great shots, but oh well. I'll know to take it next time.
There was a segment where a group of Special Olympics gymnasts performed. It was so neat to see people with disabilities doing their best with such joy. It brought a tear to my eye. There was a blind man who performed on the parallel bars. What courage and determination they exhibited.

Well, I guess New York Yankees fans are quite disappointed to know that they can't use the Bambino Curse heckle against the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox anymore. I'm glad to see that Boston was able to finally win a World Series after 86 agonizing years of trying. I really do think they deserve the win despite them eliminating the Anaheim Angels this year. It was amazing to see them come from a 0-3 deficit to beat the Yankees and then sweep the Cardinal in four straight wins.
I must say that I do feel bad for the St. Louis Cardinals fans. I can't remember when fans looked so sad and dejected.

My Niece Elizabeth
At Trisha's birthday party today, my niece Elizabeth commented on how she likes to read my blog. She also commented that for all the pictures of Taffy, there were none of her. So, being the wonderful uncle that I am, I promised to feature her in my next post. Since she started going to school and working, I don't see her as much I'd like.

Was that the most exciting League Championship Series ever or what? The Boston Red Sox have written two pages in the MLB history books. They were the first team to force an LCS seventh game after a 0-3 deficit. And now they have become the first team to come back to win after a 0-3 deficit.
We had four and five hour games, Curt Schilling pitching with a bloodied sock, grand slams, extra innings, Alex Rodriguez slapping the ball from Arroyo's hand in desperation, fans throwing balls on the field, NYPD police poised in riot gear and history making wins. Could the World Series be nearly as fantastic?
Originally, I was upset with the Sox for beating the Anaheim Angels in the Division Series, but I've gained a new respect for them and hope they go all the way. Speaking of going all the way, will they finally break the Curse of the Bambino this year, something they have not been able to do since 1918? I hope so, but I wonder if they are just too tired out from this comeback. Well, time will tell.

I had Panang Pork today for lunch at Thai Smile and it was sublime. I haven't had it in a while, but it really hit the spot over steamed rice since it was a blustery, rainy, cool day in Palm Springs today. Panang Pork is a Thai dish that has pork, green beans and basil in a spicy sweet light curry sauce.
There are three Thai restaurants in town that I love to go to for lunch. Strangely, I have a different favorite dish at each one. At Thai Smile my favorite is Panang Pork. At Thai Kitchen II, it's Prik King with Tofu. At Peeraya it is Yellow Curry with Chicken.

I cooked dinner tonight for Toni. I haven't been Chef Mike in a while, so Toni was very pleased. I made New York steak, cooked medium, with sauteed mushrooms in a brandy cream sauce. I served it with fresh baked French bread from the market.
Chef Mike is a name that Toni and Erin gave me because I love to cook and they enjoy my food so much.

Muffin always waits for me at the top of the stairs just outside by bedroom. She loves to be picked up and stroked on her head. Whenever I try to take a picture of her, she invariably walks toward the camera as I focus. So I decided to take a shot while moving the camera at the same rate as her approach using a slow shutter speed.

You can say anything you please. A little encouragement, agreement, information, suggestions, a quick hello, whatever. Thanks in advance for your comments.

On my way home from work, I stopped at PETsMART to buy Taffy a new collar. The one we got her has now become snug on her neck because she has grown. Well, I picked one out that I thought was quite nice. When I got home I found that it was huge on her neck and not suitable at all. What was I thinking? I knew she was a tiny dog. After I whipped up some quick grilled Genoa Salame and Provolone sandwiches for dinner, Toni and I went back to the pet store to find a better fitting collar. We picked a really pretty purple and turqoise one that fits loosely on her. Problem solved.

Mickey at DCA
November 18, 2003, marked the 75th anniversary of Mickey Mouse debuting in "Steamboat Willie" in 1928.
To commemorate Mickey Mouse turning seventy-five years old, Disney is celebrating Mickey 75 InspEARations on Tour. Be sure to check out the neat facts about my favorite mouse and more about the tour.
Seventy-five 700 pound, six foot tall Mickey statues were designed by celebrities to be auctioned for charity. The statues began their journey at Disney World and will be travelling across the United States from May 18th, 2004 through October 21st, 2004 to end up on display at Disney World until February 2005.
Mickey Mouse is my favorite Disney character and my wife's too. Eeyore is Erin's favorite.

Well, the Anaheim Angels lost the third game of the American League Division Championship to the Boston Red Sox today 8 to 6 in the 10th innning. My dad informed me yesterday that his urologist plans to go ahead with his prostate surgery the first week of November. This is a surgery where the cancerous tissue is frozen using liquid gas and requires an overnight stay at the hospital. It generally takes a few weeks to recover fully from the procedure. Hopefully that will get my dad back into relatively good health for the foreseeable future.

I had my windshield replaced today. It's the original windshield that's been on the car for eight years. I am typically blinded when driving into the sun because of pitting the wind and sand creates on glass here in the desert where I work. Thousands of commutes to and from work have wreaked havoc with my windshield.
I used American Auto Glass upon recommendation from a co-worker. I can vouch for their work. They came out to my location and replaced the glass. The work was quick and professional and I thought the cost was reasonable. If you live in the Palm Springs vicinity, give them a try by calling (760) 321-7200 They can typically install the next day or even sometimes the same day.
I can't wait to drive home tonight. It will be unbelievable to drive into the setting sun and be able to see. Normally it's a prayerful, unsettling experience to drive without the luxury to see the road and other vehicles.

I had to pick up Erin at her school tonight after an away game. She does statistics for her high school sports program. So, I had some time to kill before going home. I went to Circuit City, Best Buy and Costco to do a little shopping and went out to dinner alone. I had wanted to try a place called Ono Hawaiian BBQ that I had seen many times on my way home from work. I had the Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate for dinner. It was really good. It came with macaroni salad, steamed rice and Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and Beef and Korean Kalbi Spare Ribs.
At Costco, I picked up a copy of Aladdin (Special Edition Gift Set) on DVD just released today. It's one of my favorite Disney animated features, so I am quite pleased to own it.

The Anaheim Angels play in the ALDS (American League Division Series) against the Boston Red Sox beginning tomorrow. The first two games are at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Tuesday and Wednesday. The next two are on Friday and Saturday in Boston. They return to Anaheim on Sunday if the 5th game is required. We need to win 3 out of 5 to move on to the League Championship Series.
Toni is going with my dad to ALDS Game 1 at 1:10 pm tomorrow and I'm going with my dad to ALDS Game 2 at 7:10 pm on Wednesday.
In Game 1, Jarrod Washburn goes against Curt Schilling. It's going to be a tough game, but I hope the Halos are victorious over the Sox. Go Angels!

Fruit at Granville Island's Public Market
We spent an afternoon browsing Granville Island on our summer trip to Vancouver, Canada. Their Public Market has a host of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, coffee and whatever other scrumptious food products you can imagine. The fruit was so perfect and arranged into beautiful formations.
Toni thought their Snapple Peach Tea was milder and better tasting in Vancouver than it is here in California. I tasted it and concurred. She said she liked the peche (French for peach) better.
One interesting note: We witnessed many giant seagulls at Granville Island. I saw one particularly fiesty seagull dive into the back of a woman's head like a crazed Kamikaze to distract and then steal a mouthful of Chinese food from her plate. Needless to say, we ate indoors.<< September 2004 | Main | November 2004 >>
