Airbus A380 Superjumbo Jet Unveiled
Tuesday, 18 Jan 2005 | Transportation
Airbus revealed their new mammoth A380 jet in Toulouse, France today. It will be the largest commercial jet aircraft for passengers and freight, eclipsing the Boeing 747 which holds the current title.
The A380 is the first full double-decker passenger aircraft in the world, able to seat from 555 in a typical three-class interior layout to a maximum of around 800 passengers.
The A380F, the freight version, has been ordered by both Federal Express and UPS for delivery in 2008. The passenger version should begin shipping in 2006.
Virgin Airlines half-owner, Richard Branson wants a casino offering blackjack and roulette, a gym and 35 private double beds on each A380. Virgin has ordered six A380s (delivery expected in May 2008) with an option for six more.
