Comment Spam!
Friday, 14 Jan 2005 | Internet, Rants
For the past week or two, I've been getting a lot of comment spam on my blog. It's really annoying, but I've been good about deleting it promptly when posted.
The IP address appears to be randomly generated, so I can't simply use IP blocking to stop it.
The names associated with the spams are:
poker
online poker
phentermine
meridia
valium
diet pills
debt consolidation
buy phentermine
The name section is the only portion that seems to have any consistency. It appears that it would help if Movable Type could flag comments with these keywords into an approve by administrator state.
Have other bloggers been encountering increased comment spam lately too?

I've been lucky so far. Haven't gotten any comment spamming on my blog. However- I hear it happens a lot.

Another one of my friends uses MT and was having the same spaming problems. He finally upgraded to MT 3.14 and he's testing it now to see if the spamming stops. :-) (BTW, i'm finally back online! - *yea me*, but i'm currently buried in utility bills and homework)

Welcome back Hieu! Long time no read.
I'm currently using MT 3.14 and am getting lots of spam still. I did setup MT's spam busting strategy using the rel="nofollow" tag. So far, I'm not getting less spam, but am hoping that it will deter spammers in the future as more bloggers implement this strategy.
