Google Maps!
Tuesday, 8 Feb 2005 | Internet
I just checked out Google Maps and found it quite nice. The maps are nicely colored and very clean. You can easily look up locations and get driving directions like most online maps. It just seems more elegant than the others I've used. You can also look up businesses in an area.
One feature I really like is the ability to drag the map to change your position. It moves smoothly and there's not the screen by screen delay to redraw I'm used to. There's a lot of features, so go explore and make it a point to take the tour to familliarize youself with the interface.
The main downside to Google Maps is it doesn't support all browsers including my favorite, Safari. They are apparantly working on a Safari compatible version. I tried it using Firefox on my Mac and it worked very nicely. It works with the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape and Mozilla and you must have JavaScript enabled. If your browser isn't compatible, you'll be presented with list of links to compatible browsers.
