555 East & Mahalo Bash

Monday, 5 Sep 2005 | Entertainment, Food, Music, Restaurants

Toni and I treated my dad to dinner at 555 East in Long Beach last night. I had heard that 555 East serves good USDA Prime steaks and the restaurant happened to be close to the Terrace Theatre where we were seeing Raiatea Helm.

For starters, my dad and I had a cup of Clam Chowder and Toni had the Crab Bisque. My dad and I ordered the 8 oz. Filet Mignon and Toni had the New York Steak. All the steaks were cooked perfectly medium. My dad and Toni had a baked potato and I tried their reknowned garlic mashed potatoes. The soups and dinners were all excellent.

For dessert my dad and Toni decided to share the Rustic Apple Tart and I had the Assorted Sorbet. The Rustic Apple Tart was very good with a nice sweet cinnamon flavor and was accompanied by Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. The phyllo shell was nice and crispy, but my only complaint is there was a portion that was overbaked with a slightly burnt flavor. I loved my sorbet. It's one of my favorite desserts because of the fresh fruit flavor. They served 3 scoops of sorbet, one each of raspberry, papaya and lemon.

After our lovely dinner, we proceeded to the Mahalo Bash. This was the second time in a couple of weeks we had witnessed Riatea Helm perform. We had seen her recently in Honolulu. This was nice because the Terrace Theatre has a much more professional sound system and lighting. We particularly enjoyed the hula dancers who performed while Riatea sang. There was a particular male hula dancer who had composed one of Riatea's songs who was so fluid and graceful in his movements. We had a wonderful time.
