I'm the Next American Idol

Wednesday, 1 Feb 2006 | Daily, Family, Humor

I've been watching the auditions for American Idol with my family. Last night I watched the tryouts for Las Vegas and was again amazed and horrified by what I heard. I don't know how some of these people can believe they have a good singing voice. Are they so tone deaf they can't hear themselves? Do their friends not care enough to break it to them that they are awful? Wouldn't you at least make a cheap tape recording of yourself singing to see if what's coming out of your mouth is agreeable before embarassing yourself on nationwide television?

On American Idol last night I heard a particularly bad rendition of As Long As You Love Me by the Backstreet Boys. I guess that bad singing made more of an impression on me than I thought. Toni told me this morning that at 4:00 AM I started humming As Long As You Love Me in my sleep. Apparently, I was humming it loud enough that Toni had to put her pillow over her head to muffle the what I'm sure were mellifluous tones. Poor Toni. I feel so bad for her. She doesn't deserve such abuse.

While brushing my teeth, I asked her if I was good enough to pass the audition and if I was going to Hollywood. She said that was a definite no. I don't understand. What does she know? I know I'm good and everyone tells me so. She's making a huge mistake not sending me to Hollywood. HUGE. She'll be sorry when she's asking for my autograph when I make it big. LOL

Well, I've been thinking and I believe there is a format for becoming American Idol that the judges are looking for. There are some pretty good singers that get turned away quite quickly. Just think, if the following famous singers auditioned, they wouldn't get past the first round and yet they have sold many records.

David Byrne
Geddy Lee
Geroge Thorogood
Tom Petty
Snoop Dogg
David Lee Roth
Courtney Love
John Lennon
Kurt Cobain
and many others...

Muahahaha!! You're funny, Michael! The beginning of American Idol is my most favourite!

cantsing - Yes, I'm sure there are lots of talented singers who wouldn't make it to Hollywood on American Idol. ;)

Kathya - Thanks. I can be silly at times. LOL
