Outback Steakhouse Grilled Shrimp

Wednesday, 28 Feb 2007 | Food, Restaurants

I am in love with the Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie at the Outback Steakhouse. It's simply seasoned and grilled shrimp served with a homemade remoulade for dipping. I squirt fresh lemon juice on the shrimp and dunk them in the remoulade. It's simply heaven to me. This item is an appetizer and comes with five shrimp. If you want these delectable shrimp for an entree, just order the Boomerang Shrimp dinner and ask them to substitute grilled shrimp. You'll have yourself a full dozen of the tastiest grilled shrimp around. Oh, and tell them disneymike sent you.

Writing for Photodoto

Tuesday, 27 Feb 2007 | Internet, Photography

I am very pleased to be writing for Photodoto. It's a real treat since I love photography and I get to work with John Watson, better known as fd on Flickr, and yes, the creator of fd's flickr toys. John is a great programmer and his fdbot is invaluable for checking tags at my Nikkor group. I just finished my first article for Photodoto on keeping colors vibrant when posting on the web.

An Interesting Fortune

Sunday, 25 Feb 2007 | Daily, Restaurants

I had lunch with a friend last week at a Chinese restaurant I frequent. I always look forward to the fortune cookie because I love the taste of the cookie and enjoy reading what the fortune has to say. I really enjoy Chinese food, so I've had more than my fair share of fortunes. However, this one I had never seen before.

Here is what it read:

You could prosper in the field of wacky inventions.

OpenDNS - A Free Internet Speed Boost

Monday, 12 Feb 2007 | Computers, Internet

Use OpenDNS

I came across a free service called OpenDNS while reading A View from Home, a blog I read often.

OpenDNS is a free service that speeds up your internet browsing by translating the URL you type in to the corresponding IP address which is a numerical address kind of like a phone number. This IP address is used to connect you to the site you're looking for. A DNS, or domain name server, does the job of translating the URL to an IP address for you. Most people use their ISP's DNS, but a few simple changes to your setup will get you connected to OpenDNS to improve speed and reliability.

OpenDNS also alerts you to phishing sites to protect your privacy and even corrects typos for you. I had a question and tried contacting OpenDNS using AIM via iChat. There was a live person there to chat with and he was very friendly and helpful. If you'd like to try OpenDNS for yourself, just go to their site and follow the simple directions to update your system and then reboot. You should be up and running in no time.

Don't Use Expectorants at Bedtime

Friday, 9 Feb 2007 | Daily

I have been sick with a bad cold for the past two weeks now. I'm feeling much better, but I'm still not 100%. I had major congestion in my chest and sinuses and a miserably sore throat. I've finished my round of antibiotics and almost feel human again despite my lingering, nagging cough that acts up especially at night.

I bought some Mucinex at my doctor's suggestion to help break up and clear the mucus in my chest. It worked very well, but I found out that you shouldn't take it before bedtime unless you want to cough and hack yourself awake all night long. A friend at work told me his doctor said to take an expectorant only during the day when you're active, but not at night if you want to sleep. I can tell you from experience this is good advice. I haven't enjoyed this cold, but at least I learned a lesson about expectorants that I will remember for the future.
