Last Saturday, I met up with some Flickr folks for a Disneyland Flickr Mixr. Since I'm such a fan of Disneyland and photography, I was quite excited about getting together with other photo enthusiasts at the Happiest Place on Earth.
We met up at 10:00 am in the lobby of the Grand Californian Hotel. It was the perfect place to meet since it was cold outside and the sofas and chairs are so comfy. I knew two of the attendees, but the others I was meeting for the first time. One couple brought their super cute daughter Chelsea. I wanted to take more photos of her, but I did get the one above of her joyfully running with cotton candy. It was neat because one of the gals I met is a bonafide Disneyland Cast Member.
At dusk, we went to Paradise Pier to take photos as the sun went down. I didn't have my tripod with me because Disneyland security wouldn't let me bring my rolling backpack into the park. I guess the size of it scared them. I had to put it back in my locker. I almost ruined it for the others because they were detained and nearly were not allowed to take their cameras in.
Even with my tripod stashed back in my locker, I was able to get a few nice shots of Paradise Pier by stabilizing my camera on the railing and increasing the ISO to allow for a faster shutter speed.
Later that night, I was able to get my tripod into Disneyland for the fireworks. My plan was to take the fireworks pictures from the upper level of Innoventions in Tomorrowland. Unfortunatley, the attraction was being refurbished and closed early. So, we scoped out a location in Fantasyland close to It's a Small World. The view was decent and allowed me to get some good shots. ISO 200 is sometimes too sensitive for the bright fireworks bursts even at f/16. Note to self: Bring a polarizer or ND filters next time.
As is common in most Flickr Mixrs, everyone came with a camera in tow. Everyone except one person had Nikon cameras. That was a surprise because I'm used to my Nikon being the minority among a sea of Canon DSLRs. A selection of photos can be seen at our Disneyland Flickr Mixr album.
I think my first Disneyland Flickr Mixr was a definite success. I met some wonderful new friends, ate good food, socialized and even got some nice photographs in the process. :)<< January 2008 | Main | March 2008 >>
